In
this show, Dr. Gracer is joined by his patient
Robert, who suffers from severe
depression and is being successfully treated with
buprenorphine
(Subutex/Suboxone).
Although this medication is
FDA approved for use in opiate
addiction and dependency, it can also treat very severely depressed people, who
have not responded to other antidepressant medications. In Robert’s case, this
probably saved his life. Listen to his story and learn about this promising
treatment.
More about Robert
Robert,
now 59, was a successful business person until he had surgery to remove a
benign brain tumor in 2007. Within one month of surgery he dove into a deep
depression that did not get better with any of the antidepressant medications
that were tried by his very skilled psychiatrist. He was sent to me as a last
resort. Today, he is active and no longer depressed, although the recession has
given him some difficult challenges.
