It was our sincere pleasure to catch up with Brooklyn, NY singer-songwriter and long-time WomensRadio favorite,
Alyson Greenfield, for a handful of impromptu performances at
SXSW 2010 ... right in the middle of 6th St. in downtown Austin! Joining us on the street for Alyson's set was longtime industry friend
John Anderson (
Hunnypot), who was also shooting video of Alyson's performance, which can be viewed
HERE.
Kicking things off was Alyson's reinvention of the massive hit song, "
Gangsta's Paradise", as made famous by
Coolio in 1995 for the film,
Dangerous Minds. Alyson may not have had a full band, amplification, or
Stevie Wonder to perform with (yes, Stevie's song, "
Passtime Paradise" was sampled by Coolio for his version, and Stevie later performed the song live with Coolio at the
1995 Billboard Awards), but her ambitious and mesmerizing voice coupled with no more than a glockenspiel and two mallets, set the streets of Austin on fire late in the afternoon on
March 17th, 2010 ... and we're VERY glad to have been there, and are now able to share it with you!
After her glocken-spiel (yes, pun intended), Alyson really wanted to perform her new rap, "
Border Patrol", but didn't have a beat to rhyme over. Survey said: we need to find someone who can beatbox ... shouldn't be too difficult, right? No more than 30 seconds pass by, and who other than the ultra-fresh
Oxymorrons crew (also from NY) is on-board and ready to back-up Alyson as she rips it up proper (without a microphone or a dj)!
...stay tuned, as we've got one other SXSW Special from Alyson coming right outta the green urban fields of downtown Austin!
