Cathy-Anne McClintock

With a more-than-impressive back catalogue dating back to 1991 and a hit song recorded and released internationally by more than 25 different artists, multi-award winning Canadian Americana artist Cathy-Anne McClintock is pushing forward in 2010 with an extraordinary amount of momentum and is showing no sign of letting up until she reaches the top.

Current Release: No Matter What ft. Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea Single

Genre(s): Folk, Americana, Bluegrass

Celeste Lear

The unreleased tracks are starting to leak onto the web and there’s a strong hint that what’s coming next from this young and talented Los Angles producer is going to be some of her finest work to date.  Take into consideration the prowess of her partnership in Digital Bliss Productions with Lynda Arnold aka Divasonic and the sheer talent dripping from the label’s roster and you’ll completely understand why Celeste Lear is on our 2010 watch list.

Current Release: Looking Up From Underwater LP

Genre(s): Indie, Electronic, Downtempo, Trip-Hop, Singer/Songwriter, Classical

Chiwawa

The first promo from the forthcoming release by Montreal, Canada’s Chiwawa offers a strong reassurance that this alternative wonder is upping the ante in 2010.  Making good on the success of their widely-popular 2009 release, Bus Stop Chinese Buffet, and putting to work a firm progression of musicology that dates back to 1997, we believe that the relentless artism of Laurie Gordon and Krassy Halatchev aka Chiwawa shall see an even greater outlet in 2010.

Current Release: Bus Stop Chinese Buffet LP

Genre(s): Alternative, Rock, Funk, Grunge, Electronic, Indie, Synthpop, House, Reggae

Divasonic

Riding high on an already-astounding catalogue of releases, as fresh as 2009’s Can of Wormz single, and dating back as far as 2002, our senses are telling us that Lynda Arnold aka Divasonic is about to make a big impression in 2010.  There’s no telling what’s coming next from this Bay Area sensation, but we’re absolutely sure that it’s going to be a crowd pleaser.

Current Release: Can of Wormz ft. Atiim Chenzira Single

Genre(s): Trip-Hop, Jazz, Experimental, Electronic, World, Electroacoustic, Indie

Elena Giordano

In an age where pop-sensibility and innovation play a delicate balance in not only acquiring an audience, but keeping them tuned in and turned on, New York’s Elena Giordano and her quirky, expressive and downright interesting debut LP, Come Clean, cater to all aspects of what an emerging artist could hope to release into the world in 2010.

Current Release: Come Clean LP

Genre(s): Alternative, Electronic, Pop, Singer/Songwriter, Rock, Experimental, Ambient, World

Jessica Frech

Leaping off the ground in Nashville, TN in 2009 with her debut release, Grapefruit EP, seventeen year old singer/songwriter Jessica Frech is ready to take flight in 2010 with her “honey and smoke” voice and academic and philanthropically-charged charisma—cutting no corners and doing it all by the book, Jessica is sure to be crossing paths with many well-established performers and industry leaders, while at the same time providing a role-model for anyone with their own musical dream.

Current Release: Grapefruit EP

Genre(s): Singer/Songwriter, Pop, Folk

Joanna Cotten

2009 was a hot year for Nashville’s sultry, Julliard-trained songstress, Joanna Cotten.  Among the immediate infatuation with her voice and irrefutable selection of band members and co-writers, Joanna’s music and mission has the undeniable capacity to continually (and abundantly) blossom beyond her previous efforts into an overflowing and unrelenting resource of musical bliss.  Four words: Opened For B.B. King

Current Release: Joanna Cotten LP

Genre(s): Soul, R&B, Singer/Songwriter, Pop, Contemporary, Rock, Americana, Funk

Katie Garibaldi

Imagine putting out your 6th album at the age of 25.  Now imagine having your whole life and career ahead of you, ready, willing and able.  San Francisco touring Singer/Songwriter, Katie Garibaldi has all of these qualities and more just waiting to explode in 2010—she’s ready, and conversely, the world is for her.

Current Release: Next Ride Out LP

Genre(s): Americana, Singer/Songwriter, Pop, Rock, Soul, Blues

Kaylah Marin

San Francisco and Los Angeles have been, are currently, and will always be hotbeds for a plethora of musicians and malleable melting pots of musical styles.  In the case of newly-relocated Angeleno, Kaylah Marin, we see a heart-stealing fusion of old-school soul, r&b, pop, jazz and funk—with hints of electronic production and at times a soft rock demeanor.  Word on the street is that there’s a strong team working to thrust Kaylah and her music into the mainstream during 2010, and there’s no doubt that she deserves every ounce of effort put forth by those that share her mission-based mindset.

Current Release: Loving Life LP

Genre(s): R&B, Soul, Contemporary, Pop, Jazz, Electronic, Hip-Hop, Funk

Kelly King

WomensRadio is not the first to talk about New York City’s ultimate 5 ½ octave superstar diva, Kelly King, and undoubtedly won’t be the last, especially during 2010.  This will be the year that everyone from the club to the coffee shop will be talking about the hardest-workin’ girl in NYC, Kelly King.  If you didn’t see her highly-supported LGBT Pride Tour headlining act or acclaimed opening for Babyface and Michael Bolton in the past, you won’t want to miss out on her steamy cinematic debut music video, bangin’ remix album or uber-anticipated full-length LP in 2010.

Current Release: The Real Definition: Workin’ Girl Remixes LP

Genre(s): R&B, Club, Pop, Electronic

Kristen Toedtman

It wouldn’t be the first time that a singer/songwriter stole our hearts; it’s just the way that she does it!  In 2004, Kristen Toedtman left her classical upbringing to score a play in Hollywood, and was embraced by the thriving singer/songwriter community that has facilitated many performances and prepared her for what is now a bright and burgeoning career.  As Kristen’s music washes over the listener, it’s interesting to know that she often returns to the East Coast to perform with The Baltimore Afrobeat Society in honor of the late, great, Fela Kuti.  Kick off your shoes, lean back and take joy in discovering one of tomorrow’s household names days before the rest.

Current Release: The Fall LP

Genre(s): Contemporary, Singer/Songwriter, Americana, Soul

Lisa O’Neill

Simply stated, the subtleties of Lisa O’Neill’s tone, texture, delivery and deportment are what immediately jumped off of her record and into our ears—causing an immediate infatuation with her debut release, Partner.  Lisa has traveled from Northern Ireland to Vancouver, and like many that have come before her (think Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star, Elliott Smith), will be making her way into your playlist, coffee shop and car—but not before she enters your heart with her (sometimes) somber and (always) sophisticated songs.

Current Release: Partner LP

Genre(s): Americana, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, Jazz, Downtempo

Miena Yoo

With a voice that speaks for generations and songwriting that could even make Leonard Cohen blush, San Francisco Bay Area Korean Singer/Songwriter Miena Yoo transforms the listener into an emotional receptacle within a matter of moments of first tuning in to her unique and addictive musical offerings.  Miena is also the 2nd WomensRadio artist to be featured 3 consecutive months in a row on the WRMusicReview Podcast.  Congratulations Miena!

Current Release: A Little Stone On The Sidewalk LP

Genre(s): Singer-Songwriter, Folk

Tahni Handal

We admit, Tahni Handal’s, was a difficult name to pronounce, but it is a name that has deeply resonated ever since it first graced our lips.  So what if Dony Wynn says that she “play[s] guitar like an old black man”?  Her bluesy guitar riffs are flawlessly complimented by an invigorating voice and compelling self-assuredness.  It is our steadfast prediction that good times will be shared by all in the musical presence of Tahni Handal throughout 2010!

Current Release: To Kiss You LP

Genre(s): Pop, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, Rock, Americana

The New Loud

Milwaukee, Wisconsin has a new (and loud) reason to be on the map.  (It’s right above Chicago, IL for those of you who need a nudge).  The New Loud are doing their part to make sure that the world is paying attention to their big Milwaukee, WI sound, and we’re excited to announce the release of both their debut EP + Full Length during the 1st half of 2010 and an impressive contribution to the Every Machine Makes A Mistake : A Tribute To Radiohead 2XCD Compilation out now on Lens Records.  Loud has just been redefined.

Current Release: Don’t Dance Single

Genre(s): Alt. Rock, Electronic, Indie
