While acting as a birth coach for a close friend, Barbara Werner was touched in an unexpected way. After 40 hours of labor, her friend gave birth to an adorable daughter. Holding this new precious life, whose eyes searched her own with trust, a new need awakened within Barbara. It was a commitment that she would ease this child's life as a female.

Barbara worked in the very industry that created images that defined women as weak, sexual objects. The incredible power, love and depth that was female was left out of the equation.

When she approached her boss with the idea to do a TV series for and by girls, focusing on what was real for them, his response was the voice of the social obvious, "Nobody cares about girls."

In 2001 Barbara and her "powerful women team" designed a non-profit that was become TVbyGIRLS. The impact it is having reaches beyond age barriers and is exposing a new generation of powerful women leaders.

"I remember how hard it was to grow up female.   And I remember the great passion I felt to make an impact in the world. I see that same spark in girls today. By partnering with girls, I know we can create the world we want to live in ...a world of spirited intelligence, courage and compassion. I know we can share that vision through the media, using images and stories to reinforce our strength. TVbyGirls is all about giving life to the future."
