When Madelyn Shaw first heard about the new project TVbyGirls, she was more interested in acting in front of an audience but when she heard TV, she knew that she wanted to be on board. Working this amazing mentors throughout her high school years, Maddy has decided that being behind the camera is where she wants to be.

She has learned that media is a powerful tool.Using it to create new images for girls, to bring greater understanding of their world and to challenge outworn views can be done by girls at very young ages.

So much information and ideas come through media can be negative, that young girls try to measure up to false concepts. In TVbyGirls workshops, they look at how  different groups of people can tell them story told in their own images/emotions through the power of storytelling. Under Cover is a documentary that has been three years in production. It will become a full length movie that explores major religion through the yes of girls to find core of how everyone connects, to discover differences, and to bring understand.

Maddy says, "What TVbyGirls teaches through media production is that the power to lead is natural for girls.

TVbyGIRLS is a nonprofit organization that works with girls ages 10 to 18 to build leadership, compassionate and collaborative working skills, critical thinking and engagement in social justice and the issues of their communities.

Over the years they've explored issues around:

  • Girl culture
  • Adolescent changes
  • Stereotypes
  • Leadership traits
  • Women in political office

Their creations have screened Nationally and Internationally and in 2007 they received 2 Telly awards.
