More about Vicki Blankenship
Vicki Blankenship’s prior job list includes Police Officer, District Manager for both Mikasa and Toys R Us, a restaurant owner and caterer, and a utility engineer. In 2001 Vicki walked away from corporate America to recover from bladder cancer and threw herself into her first love which was music. In 2003 she decided to make music her full time job as an independent artist. Vicki has now gained national recognition as an “Indie” for her music performing at festivals and venues across the United States as well as being a guest speaker at conferences, fundraisers and events. Her music is played on Indie radio shows around the world. She has released three CDs, Don’t Forget To Breathe in 2004, Horizons in 2005, and just released her third CD project called Blue Flame Trance July 24, 2009.
Vicki has devoted much of her time in the last seven years to raising cancer awareness and money for cancer research. She founded Indie Music For Life, Inc. non profit in 2005, which officially changed names in May 2009 to Indiegrrl Women in the Arts, Inc. She is President of Indiegrrl Women in the Arts, Inc. Indiegrrl has the mission to build educational, networking, and showcasing opportunities for women of all ages in music, comedy, spoken word, visual arts, and to donate to various charities with some being cancer based.
Vicki is also one of the featured artists in Steps For Living a New York based non profit that features artists that “Got Busy Living” after their diagnosis with cancer. Vicki has done just that not only touring the US from coast to coast performing but working tirelessly to promote Indie Artists and awareness for the need of fundraising to find a cure for cancer. Her song about finding out she had cancer called “One in Eight” was featured on the award winning CD project I’m Too Young For This which won the Hollywood FAME Award for Humanitarianism.
