The Youth Activism Project is a national nonprofit clearinghouse based in Washington, DC and its President is Wendy Lesko. Eight years ago, Wendy co-founded an international initiative called School Girls Unite with a group of 7th graders and last year, this multi-generational organization, along with the Youth Activism Project, took the lead in mobilizing U.S. support for an annual girls’ rights day. Wendy joins Speak Up! to talk about this newly established United Nations International Day of the Girl Child and how everyone listening can join the movement and celebrate on October 11th, 2012.
