Purposeful Alternative Media

In this six minute recording, host of Living on Purpose Lynn Thompson offers a variety of resource links for alternative media. In the last week of October through to the end of November, the community campus CHLY, Radio Malaspina Society, celebrating 10 years on air, is in the midst of the fall fundrive, asking listeners to contribute money and time to keep the independent media broadcast centre alive.

More about CHLY
Many shows are produced ‘live’ right there in the studio in Nanaimo BC Canada: Unbought and Unbossed, Living for the Health of It, A Sense of Justice, Be The Media, A Sound Constitution, Altered Egos, Changes, People First Radio, to name a few, along with a number that are syndicated: Deconstructing Dinner, Democracy Now, Alternative Radio and Radio EcoShock. A speaker often featured in the syndicated shows is the right-to-the point Noam Chomsky. Many shows are available as podcasts. Also available on the internet is The Real News (not on CHLY). An extensive banquet of local and alternative music is sprinkled generously throughout the CHLY program schedule.

Community campus radio stations are excellent places to gain experience in broadcasting, indeed this is how your host did so, celebrating 4 years with a ‘live’ weekly show of Living on Purpose, and now an independent podcaster since 2009.

At this time of history and human evolution it is essential to support and encourage independent media. Find the community campus station in your area, or consider donating to CHLY (any time of year!), which is heard in the local listening area on the west coast of Canada on the radio dial 101.7fm and world-wide through the internet.
